Grey Space
In 1991, Harry Potter begins his time at Stonewall High, unaware that he is anything more than a boy prone to freakish accidents.
When he turns fourteen, he will receive a letter that will change his life. He will learn he is Harry Potter, and be invited into a world where belonging is his birthright. Until then, he stumbles on, two steps forward and one step back, out of the cupboard and into the life he was never meant to have.

Glasslight I: Hermione
Hermione Granger has never quite lived up to anyone's expectations of her, but, then, the world has consistently failed to live up to her expectations, too. None of that matters now, of course—
because Hermione is absolutely, irrefutably, one hundred percent going to turn her life around when she gets to Hogwarts. She’ll go to every class, even if what’s not on the curriculum is the more important part; she’ll never talk back, she won’t go getting into any trouble at all. She’ll never even have a late fee on a book. Because otherwise…
What’s the point? What’s the point of being magical, if she gets herself kicked out of school—again? That’s what her parents are afraid of.
No choice is really easy, and no path safe from the looming threats of an uncertain future and the not-so-distant past. In the stretching summer before Hogwarts, Hermione begins to unravel what it means to be born in one world, belonging to another.

Glasslight II: Ron
Ron knows who he is: the sixth of the seven Weasley siblings. Hogwarts, for him, was inevitable. Gryffindor assumed. He knows his wand is second hand, and his rat, and his robes third, books fourth or fifth or so, and he knows the Professors are going to call him Fred or George or Percy or Charlie or Bill. He knows that most everyone can take one look at him and see all of that. And in some ways, it makes it easier, to never have to prove anything.
The rest of the world, though, it's not so certain. The World Cup was the best day of Ron's life, until the horrible night that followed. Azkaban was supposed to keep history locked up tight, until Sirius Black escaped. Hogwarts was supposed to be the most amazing experience, until Snape started assigning homework. And Harry Potter—
But who is Ron kidding? He should just keep his head down, stick with Seamus and Dean, and be glad he knows who he is, at least.

Glasslight III: Draco
Draco is the son of Lucius Malfoy, who would not bat an eyelash to delegate someone to provide whatever Draco desires. Draco is the son of Narcissa Malfoy, whose unpredictable cousin Sirius Black is a specter haunting Draco's first year with dementors and aurors making a nuisance of themselves around the castle. Draco is the student of Severus Snape, whose disappointment is a salt knife through the gut, but whose wit and genius is practically peerless. And all this means Draco (Malfoy, Slytherin, pureblood, wizard) is poised for greatness.
But good God: Hogwarts, though the premier school in the UK, succeeded in the world only by Durmstrang, is so full of plebians sometimes Draco can hardly breathe for the stench of their stupidity.[Series Update May 2022: Grey Space + sections I (Hermione), II (Ron), III (Draco), and IV (Ginny) of Glasslight now complete.]
Glasslight IV: Ginny
September can't come soon enough. Ginny is so close to finally, finally leaving the Burrow and the Ministry school and her mother's nagging behind. Ron's turned into a complete git, Fred and George keep trying to blow up the house, Percy is married to the Ministry, Charlie and Bill are only around long enough to leave again, and Ginny's been stuck here, all alone, with nothing to do but go to school and dodge away from chores—
Well, not all alone, and not nothing to do. She has Tom, and she'd do most anything to protect him for what an amazing friend he has been over the last year. She has Luna, who has never been anything but patient when Ginny's anger boils over. But when she gets to Hogwarts—
When she gets to Hogwarts, things will be different. And she'll still have them. Could Ginny really hope for anything more?

Glimmers: Sirius
When Sirius reached the shore, having swum all the way from Azkaban, his body shaking with the exertion and the cold, he ran. He ran, and he ran, and he didn’t stop. It was like a nightmare: you have to keep running, because if you don’t keep running, that something looming behind you will catch up. But it wasn’t a nightmare. Sirius has always known running, running as far and fast as you can until you find safe harbor, and he knew this wasn’t a nightmare: there was the sun, for the first time in thirteen years, burning at his black fur; there was the asphalt beneath his feet, burning at the pads of his four paws, wearing away the nails that had grown long with only a single cell to pace the length of.
He ran, and he kept running, not because someone would catch him, but because if he stopped, he knew he wouldn’t be able to start again. He ran until he reached the sea. Then, staring out, standing still at last, he finally had the thought that if he was going to find his way to Devon, he was going to need to find a sign.
-
Sirius is still running, but now in pursuit. Glimpses into the summer of 1995, as Sirius chases after Peter Pettigrew.
