    Broken Threads

The battle is over, the rebels have won. But Luke Skywalker is still reeling from his ordeal in the Emperor's throne room, both physically and emotionally. Wracked with pain and fatigue, he tries to recuperate on Endor with a few days of much-needed rest. But before he even has a chance to relax, he's captured by an enterprising bounty hunter in Mandalorian armor.

Din Djarin can't believe his luck. It's the score of his life, the bounty they all said was impossible. The payout will set his Tribe up well... so long as they don't know exactly who he made a deal with. But the job turns out to be more than Din bargained for when his bounty collapses from mysterious injuries, and he must face the truth of the horrors the Empire has wrought.

Now, on the run from half the galaxy, it's a race against time as Din helps Luke find a cure for the disease that's slowly breaking the hero apart. There's only one problem... they need a Jedi. And Luke is the last of his kind.

    Or is he?

(Part 2 of Broken Threads, but could be read alone)

After rescuing Grogu from Moff Gideon's cruiser, Din Djarin returns with Luke Skywalker to his fledgling Jedi Order, hidden safely on the peaceful planet of Bogano. But Din can't rest yet--not while he struggles with the oppressive weight of the Darksaber and a broken creed.

Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker fights against his own doubts as he tries to lead his new Order, finish his training, and understand the forboding visions that have recently begun to plague him. Dreams of a shadow stretching out from the Unknown Regions, fires raging across the Outer Rim, and warriors fighting desperately to save a dead planet.

As the truth begins to unravel everything Luke and Din know, what will remain of them? The Republic? The galaxy?

“Grogu’s father still hasn’t visited him,” Luke admits, “I don’t follow the old Jedi ways, Leia, his family is allowed to visit, and it’s obvious his father loves him, so why hasn’t he visited?”

Leia’s projection manages to perfectly portray her blank, Luke-you-are-the-biggest-moron-in-the-entire-kriffing-galaxy face, even through a spotty hologram. “Have you told him?”

    “Told him what?”

Leia’s palm meets her face with an audible slap.

When Luke takes Grogu for training, he might have forgotten to mention a key detail to the child's unnecessarily attractive father. His solution? Travel across the galaxy to smooth over this misunderstanding, obviously.

“So you’re not stealing my ship?” Mando said.
“What do I want with your ship?” Luke demanded.
    “I don’t know. I don’t usually ask,” Mando said.

(Luke tries to help his student stay focused on his studies by helping his student's father. It's harder than it looks.)

the crushing weight of a single star

“YOU CAN’T BE THE MAND'ALOR,” Luke exploded.
“I’m NOT,” Din shot back over his shoulder.
    “GOOD.”
“Help me get rid of it,” Din pleaded as he swept the hilt up out of the sand.
“Not in a million years,” Luke said.

(Luke comes to an unfortunate realization. Then he and Din finally find a common ground.)

    carbonation

Luke said goodbye to the other children and his staff with Grogu practically writhing in his arms, so excited he was to get off this planet.

Luke felt that. But he also felt the indomitable urge to go and put Grogu on Yoda’s memorial altar to see what would happen. Din didn’t need to know about that leg of this adventure. He had plenty to be unsatisfied with as it was. For starters, the fact that Luke refused to take him to Dagobah in the Rust Bucket.

That was causing what other people might have called ‘tension’ between Luke and Din, but what, to Luke, was better described as a ‘temper tantrum.’

(Luke takes Grogu and Din to Dagobah in their quest to lose the Darksaber.)

    strumming in sand

Luke stood over the pile of metal and sand with narrow eyes. He appeared seconds from tapping his foot. And that was when Han finally saw the damn thing.

It was a saber hilt. Silver, like most of them. It was laying innocently on the ground by the bike’s undamaged frame, as though it hadn’t just come rocketing from a mile away to take the Mandalorian out like a bomb.

(Han steps in to help Luke get back into the saddle with the whole Din-situation.)

    bullseye

The world around Luke seemed to fall away in scales, leaving behind a pool of black, unbroken ice as far as the eye could see in every direction. The sky gave way only to stars. His breath did not cloud. His lips did not shake.

This was the calm. And he would be the storm.

(The Mandalorians come looking for their new leader, and instead find a Jedi all on his lonesome.)

into these hands you press leather

“You Mando-proposed to me in front of a raging hoard,” Luke snapped. “What part of this isn’t a bit in a comedy of errors?”

“I don’t know what that means. I am being serious," Din said.

“Obviously you don’t, I forgot who I was talking to."

(The fallout from the Mandalorian incident is a little bumpier than Din would have hoped.)

    and e'er shall we meet

Skywalker refused to come. He was covered in children. He couldn’t leave, he claimed, he’d been defeated by so many Jedi Knights.

Din pleaded with the staff silently to help him remove this man from the dirt floor.

(Din is told to make his and Luke's engagement official by sending out a formal message to other Mandalorians, and everything goes wrong before it all goes right.)
