Summary
When Shepard chose to destroy advanced technology in the galaxy, he understood he was choosing to set civilization back a few centuries. He was not expecting to wake up.
He wasn’t expecting to wake up at all – let alone in a magical medieval land on the verge of yet another crushing war with a glowing green thing on his hand.
‘’
“Captain’s log,” Shepard says, grinding the heels of his hands into his eye sockets like it’ll make the medieval cabin vanish. “Stardate, uh, fuck if I know, I haven’t figured out how they account for time yet. Hell appears to be a Star Trek episode.”

tread softly in the forest at night, when there are miles left to go Anthology by victoriousscarf
Fandoms: Dragon Age - All Media Types, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II
07 Apr 2024
Summary
This Series is ordered by the main fic and it's parts, and then all the associated side stories in chronological order below.
A note: If you are starting these series exclusively because of an interest in Solas, this may not be the series for you. The romance is not the main focus on the fic, but merely a part of the over all whole. This story is as interested in friendships, the other companions, side characters who get their own arcs (for some examples, Loranil, Krem, Orana, Dagna) and lots of world building and lore, as it is in romance. There is also a love triangle that grew out of writing the fic itself, based on questions about trauma and healing and what destiny really is.
This series is not interested in character bashing or character hate, but is very interested in the tension between people, and the conflicts that arise between them. That is to say, characters fight with each other a lot, but that's not a call to hate on any of them.
If a story about mercy grace and forgiveness, the long slow process of healing from trauma, intense friendships, lots of character arcs, politics and revolution, so much lore, and some romance, sounds good to you, then this is the series for you!

the forest is dark and deep and i've seen you here before
It's been eight years since the Conclave, and he already saved the world once. But after failing to save it again, the last thing Inquisitor Mahanon Lavellan expects is to wake up in the days leading up to the Conclave.
He died, but now he's not dead and he has to decide whether destiny is real and if he can dare change history.
Maybe it would be easier if Solas had not been the one to kill him.

He died trying, but got a second chance.
It just turns out knowing the future isn't as much help when you're the one trying to change it.

“You don’t seem particularly pleased to have me here,” Loghain remarked and Alim stared at him, his fingers digging into his biceps as he held his arms crossed.

Cullen thought he shouldn't have come inside, but he'd followed Hawke anyway.

“Come on, Hawke,” Varric said, and it was rare to see him with a frown on his face. “You can just stay here tonight.”
“I have things I need to do,” Hawke said, with the stubborn tilt of his jaw that he only got after too many drinks or when he was annoyed and pretending he wasn't.

For a long time he stared at Anders as Anders stared back.
“Are you deaf?” Fenris settled for, tilting his head to one side.
“No,” Anders said, and his hair was wet, the constant summer rain dripping down into his feathers, making them look even more bedraggled than usual.
“Then why are you here?” Fenris asked.
Anders took a deep breath, almost a gulp, and then another one. “I need your help.”

“But this is us,” Nathaniel said, softly. “You have to tell us what's wrong.”
“I don't,” Alim said flatly, and turned like he was going to go.
“Then at least tell me,” Nathaniel snapped, and Alim stopped.

“You know,” Hawke said, still looking up at the branches swaying in the breeze above them. “You and Fenris aren't really so dissimilar.”
Cullen blinked. “Fenris?” he asked and Hawke finally turned back to look at him. Cullen wondered how long Hawke knew he'd been awake.
Hawke waved a hand up at Cullen's ceiling.

In the Shadow of the Parhelion by Elerrina174
Fandoms: Dragon Age (Video Games), Dragon Age - All Media Types, Dragon Age: Inquisition
01 Mar 2024
Summary
Parhelion- a bright spot in the sky appearing on either side of the sun, formed by the refraction of sunlight through ice crystals high in the atmosphere.
Finley had never been bright. She’d lived a life in death's shadow, full of loss and crime. She was supposed to have died along with the others at the Temple. She had already been on borrowed time. The Maker was cruel that way. Joining the Inquisition hadn't been her choice, but when had she ever said no to Evelyn? Her friend was persuasive. She had promised herself she would never join another army yet there she was serving under the Commander. He was her antithesis all bright and golden, a former Templar who stood for order and control. All things she hated. The longer she stayed the more overshadowed she became. She was sure she would eventually fade away into the darkness. Then why couldn’t she bring herself to leave?
An angsty retelling of Inquisition from the perspective of someone who never wanted to be there in the first place. How do you reconcile with your past while grappling with the uncertainty of the future?

Summary
This series is meant to encompass all my stories in my "headcanon" worldstate, which is in fact a canon-divergent AU.
1: Sanctification, DA:O and DA:O-A, F!Cousland/Leliana. Faith, doubt, politics, wolves!
2: Spells of Healing, pre-DA2 through pre-Act II. Anders/F!Hawke (mage, red/aggro). Oops baby AU and plans for change.
3: Spells of Power, Act II-III. Anders/F!Hawke. She becomes Viscountess of Kirkwall in AU fashion and tries to reform the Circle.
4: Spells of Battle, the Mage-Templar War, end of DA2 through the Haven Conclave. Anders/F!Hawke.
5: Rising Powers, DA:I, Dorian/M!Trevelyan. The Inquisition is not as strong as it is in canon... and Ferelden and the Free Marches are a lot stronger.
6: Wills of Adamant, DA:I and post-DA:I, Anders/F!Hawke. What happened with "Here Lies the Abyss" and afterward.
7: Joie de Vivre, post-DA:I. The epilogue for Cousland/Leliana.Anthology containing:
Sanctification
Elissa Cousland never expected to be a Grey Warden, but she doesn’t mind it. She can fight evil, develop her gift from her mother’s bloodline to call upon wolves, and pursue real love rather than fulfilling some grim noble duty. She has never been attracted to men, so that freedom matters to her. She just wishes her conscription had not corresponded with the loss of her whole family, or so she fears, as well as her lover.
When she meets the bard-turned-sister, Leliana, she is sure that this will be special. Leliana has a sad past too, a betrayal by her former mentor Marjolaine and an acute regret from Lothering, but together they might be able to help each other heal. But the moral challenges during the Blight, the brutal game of Fereldan politics, and their own dark pasts won’t make it easy for either woman.
(A story that occurs in the same world as my “Spells” series. Can be read as a standalone; no prior reading of other stories needed.)
Spells of Healing
In Dragon 9:27, Anders escaped the Circle of Magi. It was not the first time or the last, but it was very significant. Caitlyn Hawke, apostate mage, fell in love with him, and her father died trying to help him. He was recaptured, but not before leaving her with a permanent “memento” of their relationship.
Four years later, they met again on the other side of the Waking Sea. He was Tainted, possessed, and exiled; she was impoverished, mourning her sister, and thoroughly embittered. Both of them had loved someone else—and lost them, since they could not stop thinking about each other. It seemed hopeless....
(Edited & illustrated! The story continues in Spells of Power and Spells of Battle.)
Spells of Power
Caitlyn Hawke and Anders have big plans. With noble support and a useful, if corrupt, ally in Mother Petrice, Hawke intends to use the Qunari crisis to get Grand Cleric Elthina replaced with her own ally. She also has a certain big ambition of her own and a list of goals: limit Meredith Stannard’s influence, reform Kirkwall’s Circle, spark reform everywhere, and get the backing of Divine Justinia to safeguard her position as a mage ruler and protect her and Anders’ mage son from being taken away. But Meredith also has allies and is not ceding power without a fight—a very dirty and bloody one if necessary, one that challenges Caitlyn not to become a tyrant too.
Meanwhile, Anders doesn’t think Caitlyn goes far enough with her reforms, and he—or perhaps Justice—also thinks she risks failure by playing by traditional political rules against a foe who thinks she is above rules. Meredith had a previous Viscount killed, after all....
(Canon-divergent. Reading Part 1, Spells of Healing, is recommended but not strictly necessary. Edited & illustrated!)
Spells of Battle
It is Dragon 9:37, and war has begun. For two years the mage Viscountess of Kirkwall, Caitlyn Hawke, fought violence and obstruction as she expanded mage rights. But at last she and her husband Anders assassinated Meredith Stannard and declared the Kirkwall Circle independent, inspiring more Circle rebellions. Now the chantries of the northern Free Marches have declared a schism due to Divine Justinia’s support of Hawke, with former Grand Cleric Elthina as its “Divine.” Justinia cannot help, as the Templars and Seekers who aren’t joining the schism only care about keeping the other Circles in line. Caitlyn, Anders, the rebels, and their allies must fight the war alone.
Challenges arise at home too. With an ambitious anti-war Coterie boss undermining Caitlyn from one side, mage supremacists from the other, and Grand Cleric Petrice urging Caitlyn to deal with foes ruthlessly, she is tempted more than ever to be a despot. Anders wants to help her keep to the light... but by 9:39, he has his own struggle, a dark voice that will not let him or Justice alone.
(Canon-divergent Mage-Templar War that’s still mostly compatible with Asunder. Reading Parts 1 and 2 of the Spells series is advised.)
Rising Powers
Max Trevelyan has been a powerless Circle mage most of his life. He didn't even get to fight in the Mage-Templar War when he wanted to. Now suddenly he is the Herald of Andraste and then the Inquisitor. With an ancient menace at large, Orlais in disarray, and the Chantry leaderless and still sundered from a terrible war and second schism, someone needs to pick up the pieces. And with a lover by his side who knows politics, the son of a magister, Max thinks he may have a real chance to make Thedas closer to his ideals.
Many of his companions want to rebuild the old world instead, but they may find that a challenge. Viscountess Hawke of Kirkwall and her mage army are issuing ultimatums about mage rights, and all Thedas knows they have the magic and weapons to back them up. Ferelden is also ascendant and making demands. And then Max starts to see the Inquisition, which should have been a force for good, doing worse and worse things simply for power. Dorian empathizes, feeling similarly about Tevinter, so perhaps they can stop the worst excesses of the organization Max “leads”... can’t they?
This is not a playthrough novelization.
Wills of Adamant
For many years, Caitlyn Hawke has had dark dreams of a hole in the sky, a trail of bloody footprints behind her, a crown on her forehead dripping with red, and her beloved Anders falling in hopeless combat against a monstrous demon. When at last she understands what these dreams mean, and he insists that he must go to Skyhold to advocate for the free mages, will her warnings make a difference?
(Canon-divergent. Contains major spoilers for my also-canon-divergent novels Spells of Battle and Rising Powers.)
Joie de Vivre
After the dust has settled from the War Against the Elder One, the Hero of Ferelden and her partner reflect on what they have been through, lost, gained, and what they hope the future holds for their family.

The Girl with the Arrow Tattoo by Cartadwarfwithaheartofgold (manka)
Fandoms: Dragon Age (Video Games), Dragon Age - All Media Types, Dragon Age: Inquisition
01 Nov 2021
Summary
Instead of burning the witches, Thedas thought it civilized itself by locking them up in dismal, dark prisons and preaching sermons about the wickedness of magic. And when war erupts, every weapon from guns to hexes are fair play. The Champion of Kirkwall, the one free witch in Southern Thedas, vanishes into thin air as war consumes Orlais and Ferelden. The Seekers will do anything to bring Hawke back, and if that means taking her best friend into custody...
Varric Tethras didn't count on many things, but nobody saw Maria Cadash coming. The Carta thug from Ostwick keeps secrets of her own tight to her chest while stepping in as an unlikely unifying force in a world gone mad. The only question is whether the people who call her Herald can save her from the past that threatens to incinerate the woman who could save the world.
While rated E, most of this work falls squarely within the M rating. Explicit Sexual Content will be marked with a * in the chapter title.

Shepard meets Thedas Anthology by Katieee, heffalumps
Fandoms: Dragon Age (Video Games), Dragon Age - All Media Types, Dragon Age II, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Mass Effect Trilogy
30 Aug 2021
Summary
In which Commander Mollie Shepard, a Vanguard with a fondness for inappropriate jokes and ill-considered Charges, worms her way into the Dragon Age universe, and usually ends up banging Cullen.
Anthology containing:
The Two Commanders by Katieee
When Commander Shepard destroys the Reapers, she expects to die along with them. She does not expect to wake up in a strange, medieval world where people mistake her biotics for magic. Her plan is to find Liara, who accompanied her to the Crucible, and find her way home — providing she can outwit the grumpy Templar chasing her.
Starting in Kirkwall just before the Mage rebellion and then skipping on through to Inquisition, get ready for two old soldiers struggling to redeem themselves and the slowest of burns.
Spectral by Katieee
There was one mage in the Gallows who had never been like the others; she was loud, defiant, and she flirted constantly with the Knight-Captain. Really, there was only one thing Meredith could do about her.
And though Cullen had promised to kill Shepard if she was ever made Tranquil, keeping that vow turned out to be a lot more difficult than he'd expected.
(An angst-filled AU of The Two Commanders, in which Shepard is made Tranquil right before the explosion at Kirkwall.)
One Black Coffee by Katieee
Cullen doesn't know the first thing about coffee, but his local barista seems determined to change that. He's happy to go along with whatever she says — even if he suspects she's spelling his name on his cup wrong on purpose.
A coffee shop AU featuring two Commanders at peak stupidity. Rated M for Shepard's singular ability to lower the tone.
The Satinalia Switch by heffalumps & Katieee
All Olivia Trevelyan wanted was a nice, quiet Satinalia, but chaos descends the moment the Inquisition sets foot in Denerim Palace for their peace talks. Now she has to navigate a case of mistaken identities, the looming threat of assassination by the Crows, and, worst of all, a King whose smile makes her weak. With the future of the Inquisition at stake, can she figure out a way to save them, or will Shepard have to go ahead with the worst plan of all time?
A lighthearted Satinalia AU set just prior to Trespasser featuring an increasingly frantic Trevelyan, a marginally lovestruck King, and two absolutely hopeless Commanders.

Given the title of Oracle (which she's not a fan of, thank you very much, she's a scientist) she must carefully walk the line between using her knowledge of the game to guide the Inquisition, while protecting herself and her secrets.
Can she put what she knows to get the best ending for the ones she cares for? Or will she crash and burn in the wolf's jaws?

After Wisdom had gone, I hadn’t been sure that Solas would ever return. In time, he did, offering no more explanation than to say, I could hardly abandon you now.
