    Instant Kill Mode

"Is there a reason you're calling this late at night?" Tony asks, worried in spite of himself. "Tell me what's going on, kid."

“Everything is one-hundred-percent fine,” Peter says. “Seriously, I've never been better. But I should let you know I have about thirty bricks of cocaine in my bedroom. Also, Karen won't let me turn off Instant Kill Mode. Also, Walmart discontinued my special razzle-berry pink-squeezy lemonade. Which isn't related to tonight's patrol, I'm just bummed about it.”

    Kids These Days

The rogue Avengers know about the kid Tony is mentoring. They know his name is Peter and he lives with his aunt in Queens. They know he’s young. They know he’s got heart. They know he’s Spiderman.

What they don’t know is that Peter’s messy, offbeat lifestyle has a way of sucking you in and entangling you in craziness. There’s not a single person he can’t charm, from super-soldiers to ex-brainwashed assassins to Russian spies to Asgardian gods. The kid has the personality of a Michal Bublé song—chaotic and so freaking bubbly—and the ability to systematically dismantle the walls you’ve spent your whole life building.

The rogue Avengers don’t know any of that. Not yet. But they’re about to find out.

(I am Peter Benjamin Parker, and I exist.)

    - - -

Three months after his existence was erased, Peter Parker was not doing so well. His solace came from knowing that at the very least he had managed to save his city in the end.

Apparently, though, Peter realized as Doctor Strange explained to him that he had to give up even more, losing everything-and-then-some just wasn't enough.

    OR

The multiverse continues to collapse in on itself. Doctor Strange discovers the source of the problem as Peter Parker. The only viable solution is to remove Peter from his original universe so that no more entities will be drawn to his presence there.

Peter is sent to a world that lost its Peter Parker, and finds himself lost in a sea of people he'd grieved who had all grieved him in kind.

    Demigods' Interlude

When Percy stepped out of the elevator, Hazel wanted to weep.

His clothing was tattered, hair matted with blood, and he was covered head to toe in golden dust. But he was alive.

It took her a few minutes to realize that he was alone.

Before she died, she'd heard reports on the radio about soldiers who came home. Shellshock, they called it, from being in the trenches, the bombs and the bullets and the dead. Hazel had met soldier, once. A man who'd come home to her little town, missing half his leg and most of his mind. The look in his eyes was hauntingly similar to what she saw on her cousin's face.

Percy was different now. Stronger, maybe. He'd made it through Hell, but not without leaving a piece of him behind.

    The File

“Stark, listen to me. Even since Project Insight failed, Hydra has been trying to recreate it. We don't know how far along they are, but we do know that they will get there. SHIELD is in shambles, the Avengers Initiative has gone to shit. There's nobody to stop them. Their hit list isn't changing, either. The Avengers, or former Avengers, are still at the top. And you? You're the easiest to find.”

Tony rolled his eyes. “Yeah, no shit. I can handle myself. Besides, what are you going to do? I wouldn't trust a single one of your agents, and I very much doubt you are going to stick around here yourself.”

Fury nodded. “True. I have things I need to do, as do you. You can't afford to be focusing on weeding out Hydra.” Tony didn't trust that agreeable tone. “But, I have someone who can.”

    There it was.

He pulled the folder onto his knee, and cracked it open. A picture was paperclipped to the front, and a name sat at the top in dark, neat letters.

Agent Jackson — Perseus Achilles Jackson

    The Lost Soldiers

Bucky didn't quite believe the email when Shuri first showed it to him. Why on Earth would Tony Stark agree to house him? Not only that, but to help him?

But if there was a chance, no matter how small, that he could get rid of the Soldier...

Well, he just had to take it.

Percy's wasn't sure what to think.

On one hand, he feels for Bucky Barnes. The man's been through hell and back; something Percy knows all too much about.

But on the other, he's a ticking time bomb. Percy wants to help him, he really does. But if the Soldier made a reappearance...

Percy knew he'd have no choice but to put his duty first.

To kill James Barnes without hesitation.

    The Prodigal Son

The Winter Soldier was an omen.

He was unstoppable in his goals, vicious in his execution. Cold and unfeeling as his name. He was a herald of death, a shadow in the night, a name only in the words of dying men, whispered syllables on blood-coated lips.

The Winter Soldier was also dead.

It's been months. Bucky should feel better.

But standing next to Percy on the other side of the police tape, looking over the tally of bodies that just keeps growing, he can't help but feel anything but dread.

The Winter Soldier was gone. But it was becoming brutally apparent that he was not the only ghost who had taken up clawing his way through innocents.

“What’s going to happen?” Peter whispers softly to his mother once they are alone again.

Mary cups the boy’s face in her hands. For ten years she was able to keep her son away from the life of criminals and psychopaths. After she fled, Tony put in a rule that all hospitals must keep children in custody until a DNA test is completed. There was no way Mary could sneak Peter out.

“He is going to come. I’m sure he will have a few Avengers with him. They will probably separate us.”

Peter grabs her hands, “I won’t let them do that.”

“Peter” Mary leans forward, placing her forehead on his. “Do not fight him. We are both going to do what he instructs. That is the only way to get through this. I…I’m sure he won’t allow us to see each other for a long time. Definitely not until he thinks we are compliant. If we just do what he wants, the sooner we will see each other again. Do you understand?”
The thirteen-year-old nods his head, again allowing tears to flow. “I love you mom.”

    “I love you too.”

The sound of the door opening causes the duo to freeze. Mary’s blood feels like ice when she hears an all too familiar voice taunt “Daddy’s home.”

    Recall of the living

    They didn’t remember. Nobody did...

But in typical Peter Parker fashion, Peter Parker was unlucky enough to remember.

    Big and Loud

    “It’s so loud.”

    “Like I said, it’s gonna be, half-pint.”

“Heh,” Peter huffs a sad laugh. “But I mean everything. Here. Not just them.”

“Hmmmm,” Tony stops his fiddling--he wasn’t actually doing anything anyway, just finding something to occupy his hands--and waits. He is hoping Peter will say more, but he doesn’t want to push, and wouldn’t know how even if he did. “I know we have to talk about this, but I have no fucking idea how to.”

Driving Lessons, or the first time Peter Parker sees Tony Stark have a panic attack

Tony was already nervous, and Peter really needs to learn how to read the room.

    May and Pepper's Kids

“You know, we do have extra floors at the tower,” Pepper is only partly joking.

“Let’s not get crazy,” May snorts. “And he may not realize it now, but I’ll give it another week or two until he’s ready for a break. Teenagers are A LOT.”

“Don’t tell him that. He’ll probably be horribly offended someone is talking about Peter that way.”

“No, I’m gonna let him figure that one out on his own. Preferably when I’m relaxing at a spa somewhere far far away.”

“We’ll make a date, then. Tell you what,” Pepper sits up. “I’ll go get our children and get them to actually be productive, while you and I will not indulge in maladaptive stress relief and actually take a breath tonight.”

    A Little Tumble

But once Peter is on his own two feet in a pair of sneakers on the ground, he becomes a walking, talking disaster. Tony is now used to the frequent bangs, clangs, and squeaky curses that come with Peter joining him in the lab. Or the living room. Or walking on the sidewalk. Or sitting in the dining room. Spiderman can do whatever a spider can. Peter Parker would find a way to trip on an ant.

    Bright Lights and Back Home

When they arrived in the city, five of the cars swerved off towards Manhattan, down to the Tower that Tony had taken off the market with promises over the car speakers that they’d all see Peter soon. He’d felt a bit embarrassed they all felt the need to promise that specifically to him, but May had merely patted his hand and smiled gently, so he thought maybe it was ok.

“So I guess you’re an Avenger now,” she’d teased, reaching over to pinch his cheek.

    “May…”

“More like a team mascot,” Mr. Stark’s voice came over the speakers. “Happy, you remember the exit to get off?”

    Blue holograms, red eyes

“You figure it out, kid?” The glass door to the lab hisses open once the retinal scanner clears him. He carries the two mugs around the corner while Dum-E beeps at him. “Just let--” Tony stops in his tracks.

Oh no. Peter is sitting on the floor in the center of the large lab, staring ahead at a wavy, blue hologram. His Stark Pad lies abandoned in his lap. Tony hears his own voice, the message he recorded before the team descended on Sanctuary, determined to destroy Thanos and reverse his actions, or die trying.

    Bust a gut, Tones

“I’m fine, Peter,” he says, probably more harshly than he intends to, because he immediately sighs and his hands loosen on the steering wheel. “Really, I’m ok. Would I lie to you?”

“Yes,” Peter deadpans. Because he would about something like this.

“You got me there,” Mr. Stark reaches out and punches his knee playfully. “But really, don’t worry about it.”

“Promise you’ll tell me if there is?” Peter can’t help but think back to a few weeks ago, when he’d thrown a tantrum and Mr. Stark ran after him, and almost got shot by a piece-of-shit mugger. When he’d refused to lie and say he’d never die.

“Of course, kiddo,” Mr. Stark throws a small smile at him. The Compound is probably less than a quarter-mile away. “My stomach is just feeling a little off. Probably nerves.”

    An Unwanted Christmas Gift

Tony Stark hates Christmas, Peter and Pepper love Christmas, May has to work, and everyone gets norovirus.

    That's it. That's the story.

    Mid-winter Siesta

“‘M not tired,” Peter rubs his eyes when they reach the heavy oak door of his room, obviously very tired. He shivers. “‘M jus’ cold.”

“Probably because you’re tired,” Tony opens the door and walks Peter through, deliberately ignoring the mess of clothes and books on the floor.

    “May always says that, too.”

“Probably because it’s right,” Tony has no idea if it’s right, but his mother always said it. Pepper says it. It sounds right. Maybe it’s a Parent Thing. “So get those covers I paid too much for off the floor and get in bed.”

The Five Times Peter Got Help With Schoolwork and The One Time It Was Done For Him

Peter needs more sleep. And time. But he definitely doesn't need help, or at least that's what he tells himself.

    Aka Peter isn't a good self-advocate.

Aka the title is pretty self-explanatory.

Give Them What They Want, It'll Be Over Sooner

Peter takes a beating, Bucky cleans him up.

Featuring concerned Steve and warm, oversized pajamas covered in sheep.

    The Field Trip

Peter's class takes a field trip to the tower. Peter thinks that this is a recipe for embarrassment and disaster on all counts. Peter is somewhat correct.

    Loss

    What happened to Aunt May?

It wasn't long or particularly drawn-out. He couldn't run to her, hold her in his arms. He wasn't even there. He wasn't even there, yet he saw it just the same. For some reason, that made it worse.

    Pinkies Up!

    ~A Clint Interlude~

    or... ~a clinterlude~*

Clint had thought that Pepper was joking about sending him to etiquette class. Evidently, based on the room full of unhappy-looking children and pristine tablecloths, she had been dead serious. Time to pan out the escape routes, he thought.

The One Where Bucky Discovers Legos

His suspicion soon fades in lieu of intent focus. Let Lego time begin!

Featuring Spider-Fan Day, because Peter needs some appreciation.

In Which Peter Makes A Friend (His Own Age)

    Enter Ned!

Featuring a scary Bucky, a surprisingly un-scary Natasha, and Lego bonding time!

Could also be titled "If you’re a dick to our precious Petey, I’ll throw you down the garbage chute!" (-Clint)

    The Doctor's Appointment

There has to be some kind of life-threatening emergency - why else would Bucky show up in the middle of Peter's Spanish class?

    ...

Nope. It's time for Peter's annual physical appointment, which he'd been informed of and promptly forgotten about.

Featuring an anxious Bucky, three awesome elderly people, a scheming cat, and other fluffy things.

A Chance (Of Life, Of Death)

Bucky's mission was protect. Peter knew that.

He just wasn't prepared for how far Bucky was willing to go to do it.

    --

A bomb goes off on a mission, and Bucky throws himself in front of Peter. Peter gets cracked ribs and a concussion. Bucky gets off worse. Steve doesn't think he can stand losing him again.

    --

Featuring a blizzard of angst. Whiteout conditions, folks. Drive with tissues on hand. There will be a happy ending.
