    "Alright, asshole," says Jason and plunks a folder down directly on the keyboard of Tim's laptop. "I'm calling in that IOU."

    Tim doesn't startle, not visibly. But all at once there's a batarang in his hand, the blade gleaming sharp. It takes him a second to register who the intruder actually is before he gives Jason a lingering, suspicious sidelong glance and tucks it away again.

    "What IOU?" says Tim. "And how'd you get in here?"

    He looks like shit, frankly. There are dark smudges under his eyes, and he's lost weight since Jason's seen him last. From the coffee cups scattered around the desk, it's probably even odds that he's on at least 24 hours without sleep.

    "I work in mysterious ways," declares Jason. "By which I mean your window's open. You get kind of careless when you haven't slept, Timbo."

    Summary

    Harry Potter only wants one thing: to take care of the people he loves. After Teddy’s abrupt departure from his role as Andromeda’s caretaker, Harry decides it’s finally time to step up and handle the job himself.

    Castoff Manor, an old Black family estate, has never seemed as sinister as the stories make it sound, but it’s there that Harry stumbles upon ghosts, haunting family secrets, and a familiar, snarky blond gardener hell-bent on chasing him out. Maybe if Harry sticks around long enough, he’ll finally learn why all of Andromeda’s previous caretakers have fled without looking back.

    Summary

    My Percy Jackson fics that are all set within the same universe (and not related AT ALL to my other PJO series) or any standalone fic not included here, just so I can keep things organised.

    Lots of found family, family bonding, hurt comfort, etc... canon pairings only, and I'm trying to keep everything as canon compliant as possible. The fic "And I Will Always Be There For You" has some continuity issues mostly regarding Jason at this point, but otherwise? It works in this series haha, so oh well

    Anthology containing:

    This Delicate Place

    "Many of us care not for our demigod children," the man said, his voice deep and commanding.

    Jason's eyes widened as he realised who this visitor was, feeling like he'd been thrown overboard and told to swim for shore. He was Roman and rarely met the Gods, but had done his research on the Ancient Greek myths, on the stories older than Rome by thousands of years. Poseidon was not a god to trifle with or disrespect, and Jason was convinced he was about to die. He'd let Percy fall after all, and the Lord of the Seas would surely want to kill him for failing his son.

    For failing his favourite child.

    ~~~~~
    Shortly after Percy and Annabeth fall into Tartarus, the Argo II gets a godly visitor.
    when silence is comfortable
    It wasn't as if Jason didn't like Percy. On the contrary, he'd count the older demigod as a friend and an ally. If he had to choose someone to fight beside him, Jason would choose the Son of Poseidon time and time again. It was just that Percy seemed to be so much more than Jason—so much better. Jason couldn't help but feel as though he had been measured and found lacking compared to the other demigod.
    Percy, on the other hand, likes Jason well enough, but between recovering from Tartarus, the war, school, and life in general, he didn't tend to think of the Son of Jupiter often. He was an ally, someone he could fight beside and trust, but that was about the extent of it.
    A road trip together to pick up a new demigod and bring them back to camp changes things.
    ———
    Or, how Percy and Jason went from friendly allies, to actual friends.
    the markings of your life
    Being a demigod meant having scars - it was just a fact of life. Sometimes they were too late with ambrosia, too busy, or just didn't notice an injury. But the scars on Percy's hips, the raised circular welts that looked like they had been there for years, left a terrible feeling in the pit of Jason's stomach. Percy's reaction when he pointed them out just made him more concerned.
    In which Jason is a good bro, Smelly Gabe was a little worse than in canon, and Annabeth is amazing.
    'cause I'll always have your back
    Leo and Calypso are back. Annabeth has a few things to say to them both. Mainly about how they treated Percy. After all, it's not like Percy asked to be kidnapped and have his memories forcibly taken from him. That made it a little difficult to make Zeus honour his promise.
    Little Soldier Boy
    After Tartarus and the war with Gaea, Percy is falling apart at the seams. He cannot sleep, cannot focus, is jumping at shadows, and is prone to waking up with a scream on his lips. Annabeth was getting better, slowly but surely, with the help of a demigod therapist Chiron had found for them. But Percy? Percy wasn't getting better, no matter how hard he tried.
    Poseidon, seeing his beloved son struggling, takes him to Atlantis, Zeus be damned. He will help his child heal and give him the love he deserves. And, if he gets to keep his favourite son by his side, that's only a bonus.
    AKA Poseidon takes Percy to Atlantis and spoils him rotten, and Percy somehow endears himself to the people within a day.
    _______
    Set directly before: he ain't heavy, he's my brother
    he ain't heavy, he's my brother
    Percy doesn’t get migraines very often, thank the Gods, but when he does they tend to knock him on his ass for days, regardless of drugs, ocean water, sleep, ambrosia, or anything else he’d tried. He just had to wait (suffer) it out.
    It was just his luck that his first migraine in literally years would hit when he was visiting his father in Atlantis for the first time after the war with Gaea. And instead of waking up with one and being able to hide in his rooms, he’d have to collapse in public, right after talking to his half brother Triton.
    If it didn’t hurt so damn much he’d be embarrassed.
    and grown up dreams
    Percy grinned up at him, looking impossibly young. Triton fought the urge to take him and keep him here, keep him safe and away from the surface world. He may be unsure of his relationship with his brother, but even he could not deny that Percy had been through far too much in his impossibly short lifetime. He would not wish the weight of prophecy upon his worst enemy, let alone his family. Especially family he could very well be coming to like.
    Maybe.
    ~~~

    Triton maybe, just maybe, is starting to like Percy. Not that he was going to admit that to anyone else, if he could help it.

    Someone to You

    Anna wasn't sure what to think of Percy Jackson, truth be told, having only met him twice. She adored her daughter in law Sally and her little granddaughter, but there was something about Percy that put her on edge. She had no idea what - he was a kind boy, eager to help with his baby sister when most teenagers would run for the hills and clearly adored his mother - but there was just something about him, something about his too-bright eyes that made her feel uneasy.

    ~~~
    Or, Paul's parents are taking care of Estelle for a few days. When picking her up, they meet Percy again as well as his older brother (what was his name? Tri?). At this point, Anna just wants to know what the dad looks like to have kids that look like THIS. Especially when, several days later, they meet the stepmother as well.
    Little Scraps of Wisdom
    Paul couldn't do much for Percy, not really. He couldn't see through the mist, couldn't help him train, couldn't heal him… but he could offer him a home and a listening ear. He could remind him about school work, prod him to get out of bed, to eat, could take care of him when he was ill, and just be there for him. What Percy needed now was to be clean, comfortable, and have someone look after him. And Paul would happily be that person for the boy he loved like a son.
    Or, Paul Blofis is the father Percy deserves, no matter what.
    Darling It's Better
    Percy accidentally/on purpose turns himself into a merman. And can't figure out how to turn himself back. Piper is curious, Jason finds it hilarious, the rest of the Seven don't really know how to react, and Annabeth finds it really, REALLY, hot. She doesn't, however, appreciate how much Piper seems to love HER boyfriends newfound tail. He's hers, and she's not going to let him forget it.
    And I Will Always Be There For You
    One of these days, Percy was going to go to Olympus and demand the gods did something about all the monsters that ran amok. He could deal with the small ones (though, truth be told, they tended to avoid him, now), but some were insistent. Percy knew he’d made enemies with various monsters throughout his life, but this was starting to get ridiculous.
    “One of these days,” Annabeth said, pushing a loose strand of hair off her face, “we’re going to have a normal date.” She sounded just as annoyed as Percy felt, if not more.
    “I hope so,” Percy grumbled. He spun Riptide in a large arc, passing through several monsters in one go. They dissipated into dust, briefly overtaking his vision. “This is getting old.”
    —
    AKA Thirty Chapters of Hurt/Comfort, as I apparently can't do anything but make Percy suffer, one way or another.
    Awake, Awake, You Children Bold
    Sally smiled up at Poseidon, meeting his eyes, sea-green shot through with gold. She wondered if their son would inherit the same otherworldly gaze. "If my life is going to mean anything, I have to live it myself," she insisted. "Trust me."
    "I do," he whispered. Then, "I must leave you," he continued, putting one hand on her stomach. "Take care."
    Sally closed her eyes, unwilling to watch her lover disappear for what she knew would be the last time. "You and me, kid," she murmured. "We can do this."
    —
    Or, Sally and Percy throughout the years, for better or for worse.
    make a shelter out in the storm
    Percy Jackson was the best person Max had ever met.
    He was kind, which was a relatively new concept in Max's still short life. When Max had first come to Camp he hadn't made a single friend, nor had he known who his godly parent was. He'd hated it, even though home hadn't been much better. Max had made friends since and loved Camp Half Blood and knew who his mother was, but Percy was still his favourite person in the world, someone who made him feel safe and loved.
    Which was why Max hated Shane Edwards more than words could adequately describe.
    —————
    Or, Percy attracts some not so good attention. But Max has a plan. If Percy wouldn't going to put a stop to Shane, Max would call someone who would.
    In a Field of Dandelions
    "You okay there?" she asked once she was closer, smiling in what she hoped was a welcoming manner.
    The man smiled back, still looking a bit confused. Nicky's breath caught in her chest when he met her eyes. His gaze was a little too vivid, his bone structure a little too perfect. He seemed a little too much more than human. Part of her wanted to run, while another part wanted to follow him to the ends of the earth and beyond.
    "I think so," he replied, breaking the spell. "Just trying to figure out day one, I suppose. I'm Percy!"
    -----
    Percy and Annabeth's eldest child starts school. Percy inadvertently causes a bit of a stir, and Annabeth isn't jealous, not at all.
    The Purest Expression of Grief
    “You are going to die,” Poseidon said, feeling himself break as he looked at his child.
    Percy smiled up at him, dark hair floating around his face. “One day,” he agreed. “It’s okay, dad. I’m happy.”
    “You would leave me bereft of you?”
    ———
    Poseidon has had demigod children before. He’d never loved one quite as much as he loves Percy.
    The Sound of Your Loneliness
    "It's not like you to think of the happiness of your children," Hera said, "if you indeed think of your children at all."
    Much to Hera's surprise, Poseidon laughed. "Percy's different," he said once he'd calmed down. He met her eyes, something far too knowing in his gaze. Hera was reminded of ages long past and how Poseidon had, before Apollo's birth, held dominion over Delphi.
    "He's a demigod," she snapped in reply, though she knew Poseidon told the truth. There was something more about Percy Jackson—they could all see it. It was even more than that, however, though Hera refused to voice the thought aloud, even to herself.
    ———
    Or, Hera can’t help but hate and love Percy for being everything she could not have. The perfect son, the loving partner, and a demigod better than the world had seen in millennia.
    Bless the Children, Give Them Triumph Now
    "You are doubting," Artemis noted.
    Thalia looked up at Artemis again, eyes wide. "Never, my lady!" she insisted. "I could never doubt you."
    "Not me, Thalia," she chided gently. "You are doubting yourself and your place."
    "My place is with you," Thalia said.
    “Are you sure?" Artemis asked, an expression in her eyes Thalia had never seen before. She stared at the goddess' face, feeling like she was about to fall into the abyss. She had spent so much time walking with the gods that she often forgot how much more they were.
    ———
    Thalia Grace has seen and faced much in her life. She'd seen her mother drive herself mad for love, her brother disappear without a trace, monsters beyond most people's wildest imaginations, and so much more.
    She had not expected it to be so hard to live in peace.
    Let Us Go Singing As Far As We Go
    "For most," Kymopoleia agreed. "Have you never longed for immortality?" Her lips twisted into a cruel smile, and she lifted her tail from the waves before letting it fall again with a resounding crash. "Your father offered Perseus immortality, after all. Do you not long for that as well? Do you not wish to have the same respect as my erstwhile brother?”
    "No," Jason said honestly. He knew Percy didn’t long for immortality either. In that, at least, they were similar. "Never."
    “Shame,” she said. “You would make a wonderful god.”
    ———
    Jason is spending his time building temples for the forgotten gods. He hadn’t expected how lonely it would be.
    Better Than Their Fathers
    “Hey, buddy, you shouldn’t be up! Did you need anything?”
    Poseidon froze. It took a great deal to surprise him but apparently, this was one of the few things that could stop him in his tracks. He didn’t think he’d ever been called buddy before.
    “Percy?” Paul pushed, still cleaning his glasses on his shirt.
    Ah.
    “I am not Percy,” Poseidon said. “Though, I shall take the confusion as a compliment.”
    —
    Otherwise Known As: Five times someone mistook Poseidon for Percy, and one time someone thought Percy was Poseidon instead.
    Happiness Does Not Wait
    "Who said anything about a quest, child?" Amphitrite asked, laughter in her voice. It reminded Percy of Kymopoleia's, much to his discomfort. He hardly had good memories of his godly sister.
    “Gods don’t tend to want anything else from me,” Percy pointed out dryly. “You lot always want something.”
    “Of course I want something,” Amphitrite said, voice awash in amusement. “I want you to come to Atlantis,” she continued, cutting him off right as he was about to speak. She started to walk again, bypassing throngs of gaping students. She was hiding her divinity, but she still looked so much more than human. “As I said, your father misses your presence. And he is incredibly irritating when he sulks.”
    —
    Or, Percy spends some time with his godly stepmother, much to his bafflement.
    Of All That Breathe and Crawl Across the Earth
    "All of you demigods are bred for war, for me," Ares said. "That's just a fact of life." He took another drag of his cigar, then snuffed it out on the bricks near Jackson's ear. "You're chess pieces to move as we want, and nothing more."
    Jackson laughed, his voice echoing in the small alleyway in a way no mortals should. "I'm surprised you even know what chess is," he snapped. He grinned, all sharp teeth and eyes that saw far too much. "I thought that was more Athena's area. You're just carnage."
    Ares tightened his grip, wanting to see the boy squirm. Jackson reminded him of someone from millennia past, a Hero still loved by the ages. Ares wished he could place who.
    —
    Ares takes notice of Percy Jackson. Even he isn't sure if it's a good thing, not when his very presence seems to bring back memories of things best left forgotten.
    The Sorrows of Your Soul
    “I broke it as a kid, and it never quite healed right,” Percy said, stopping Nico and Annabeth from sniping further, and saving Will from having to play referee. “That’s all.”
    Nico had been through so much more than him. So many demigods had, especially those who lived at camp year round. A poorly healed break was nothing, nor were Gabe’s other actions. Percy had no reason to feel so ill at the mere mention of the man. It made him feel like a fraud, or like a terrified child again. He knew Gabe was not normal, but Percy wasn’t either. Nothing about life as a demigod was.
    Nico closed his mouth with a snap, eyes narrowed.
    —
    Or, Percy doesn't think Gabe was that bad, at least not in terms of demigod levels of bad.
    Right?
    I've Got Real Love, Baby!
    “Percy! My favourite demigod!”
    Annabeth was going to start keeping a spray bottle on her. She was sure someone in the Hephaestus cabin had something that could keep gods away. It may explode if she pressed the wrong thing, but she was willing to take that risk.
    —
    Otherwise Known As: Five Times A God Hit On Percy, And One Time They Didn’t (And Annabeth Found An Unexpected Ally She Really Didn’t Want to Have).
    Children of the Stars
    “I didn’t know where else to go,” Nico di Angelo said in a rush, standing in front of her apartment with a tired look on his too young face. “I—I’ve been looking for Percy,” he continued, sniffling slightly. He scuffed one foot along the floor. “But I haven’t had any luck.”
    Sally opened the door even more widely. She didn’t have soup to offer him, not yet, but she had freshly baked cookies and leftover takeout. “Come in,” she ordered softly. “You’re always welcome here.”
    Nico blinked up at her, looking far younger than his years, then allowed Sally to usher him through the entryway and into the small but warm kitchen. She smiled at him, just like she would at Percy. She may not have her son with her, may not be able to help him, but she could help Nico. When Annabeth returned, she could help Annabeth, as well as any other demigod who may cross her path.
    She'd even be sure to have freshly made blue cookies, always.
    —
    Sally Jackson was no saint, no matter what her son (or, apparently, Hestia), seemed to think. But she would never turn down a child in need. She couldn’t help on quests, but she could give them a mother’s love, and a space to be safe. And, of course, some blue cookies.
    Lay Down Your Burdens
    Poseidon decides that Percy’s done enough in his short life, and takes matters into his own hands. His beloved child needn’t suffer any longer. Nothing will cause him pain, distress, frustration, or any minor inconvenience.
    Percy had been prepared for many things as a demigod. He had not, however, been prepared for an overprotective godly father.
    —
    Or, five times Poseidon “protected” Percy, and one time he didn't need to.
    Too Well Tangled In My Soul
    “You should be sleeping,” he murmured, eyes half-lidded with exhaustion. He smiled at her, just like he had in the pit, then turned his gaze back to the vast blackness of the Mediterranean, hands tight on the railing. Annabeth pressed herself closer to his side, needing the physical closeness. He was cold (so was she), but Annabeth didn’t care. Being away from him felt like being gutted with a blade or like missing a limb.
    “I was,” she said after a moment. “You were gone.”
    —
    Annabeth was fine, after Tartarus. She had to be fine. They had a quest to finish and the world to save. And no matter, she was far more concerned about Percy.
    So, from either side, it's just a lot of slow movements around each other as they all try to communicate how deep their feelings run.
    i. stabbed
    Peter was paying attention, honest.
    But the mugger said, “Spiderman, knife to see you,” and then plunged the blade into his side while all Peter could think about was oh my god, did the mugger just make a pun? Then all he could think about was the cold sensation in his side and the way it turned a blistering hot when the knife was yanked from his skin.
    AKA the first day of whumpvember, my super late version of whumptober
    ii. bloody hands
    “He shouldn’t be alive,” Cho had whispered after Peter fell back into a deep sleep. “A person can’t lose that much blood and still be alive.”
    As much as Peter was a miracle, he was also one disaster after another, and Tony didn’t know if he could hold out any longer. The kid was pushing himself so hard every night and going home with more injuries than he’d given out. And Tony was getting phone calls every other night, and last night-
    He clenched the glass in his hand. He hadn’t picked up. He hadn’t heard Peter’s call.
    iii. insomnia
    The problem was, Tony was tired to his bones. He was aching and slow and he felt the desperate need to sleep, but it just wouldn’t come. He wasn’t afraid of the nightmares that plagued him when his guards were lowered – no, he’d seen the worst and come back from it.
    Tony wasn’t avoiding sleep. Sleep was avoiding Tony.
    iv. "no, stop!"
    The footsteps had slowed to a stop and Peter could hear the gunner’s breathing, could hear their fingers tapping against the gun. He gritted his teeth. He couldn’t let people get hurt – not when he had a better chance of surviving. But moving would attract the gunner to their class.
    In the end, it didn’t matter.
    There was a gunman in his school and he’d come for Peter.
    v. poisoned
    Peter collapsed onto the closest bed and groaned into the duvet.
    “Stomach ache, kid?”
    “Yeah,” Peter said a moment later, turning his head to breathe. “I think it’s the sushi.”
    “I said we shouldn’t buy gas station sushi,” Tony replied.
    “But I wanted gas station sushi."
    vi. betrayed
    Peter was nine when the Strange Things happened.
    When his dad, Tony Stark, disappeared for three months straight and no one would tell Peter where he was.
    When Obadiah Stane, one of the four people Tony had promised Peter he could trust besides him, tore out his Dad's heart.
    vii. kidnapped
    He awoke with a sharp intake of breath, unsure if his eyes were really open with the darkness that surrounded him. His ankles weren’t tied together, neither were his wrists – he was on his side, curled into a ball, and there was only a single pinprick of light in the shape of a small hole, all the way down by his feet.
    Peter frowned, his mind racing to connect what he was seeing.
    Ah, got it. Peter was in a box.
    viii. (disco) fever
    “Please don’t make me watch this,” Peter whined, moving to lean on Tony as he did so.
    “No can do, buddy,” Tony said. “It’s movie night. It’s May’s turn. Law is, we have to watch this.”
    “Don’t act like you’re not excited,” Pepper commented, pulling her feet up onto the cushions. “You’ve been humming Stayin’ Alive all day.”
    Tony grinned. “That’s because it’s got a great soundtrack. I am excited. May’s turns are the best turns.”
    May’s turns were the worst turns.
    ix. stranded
    “You know,” Peter said conversationally, despite the situation, “my parents died in a plane crash.”
    Tony released a harsh breath, turning his head to look at Peter where they laid amongst rubble and ruin on the floor of the forest. “That’s not helping, kid.”
    Peter hummed his indifference to that statement. “I’m just saying. The died on a plane crash – I never even flew in a plane until Germany – and now look at us.”
    “We’re not dead,” Tony replied.
    “Not yet.”
    x. bruises
    “You are May’s number one priority, you know that.”
    “She deserves to be happy.”
    “She does,” Tony agreed. “But you make her happy. And I want you to consider this for a minute, okay, because maybe this is something that’ll be important to remember in future, too.” Tony moved from his work, turning his stool so he faced Peter dead on. “If he was hitting you now, what makes you think he wouldn’t hit May later?”
    xi. hypothermia
    Howard Stark searching and searching, telling tales to a young Tony, too wide-eyed to know what would become of the man in the ice and how his story would loop around his, inexplicable and inextricable.
    There was a slither of Tony’s being that wished to go back in time and tell his younger self that he could hate Captain America all he wanted; he should use it as his very own shield, heft it high and carry it always, so when the good Rogers himself swung a punch, Tony would already be deflecting it.
    Everything was tinged with blue.
    xii. electrocution
    On screen, Peter was setting up the device; placing the pads and wires along Tony’s right arm. "Alright, so basically I had my friend, Ned, write out a bunch of questions for us, and we’re gonna answer them. If we answer incorrectly, we get shocked.”
    “What?”
    “Shocked, Mr Stark.”
    “You’re going to electrocute me.”
    “Only if you don’t know the answer.”
    xiii. "stay."
    “Alright, we’re doing Avengers quizzes today.”
    “Okay, we’re starting with Which Avenger are you destined for?”
    Peter leaned over to see the screen, reading, “Which Avenger is your soulmate. Possible results are: Loki- wait a minute, Loki’s not an Avenger.”
    Tony frowned at the screen. “He literally came to this planet to kill us all.”
    “I get that he’s attractive or whatever, but he’s like, a mass murderer.”
    Sequel to xii. "electrocution" - aka, they're back on the YouTube Shit
    xiv. torture
    He choked up a sob as the men in masks jolted Tony awake. They’d stopped his heart by accident – at least, Peter thought it was accidental. The way one bitched to the other; slapping him around the head and swearing in a language Peter didn’t understand, made him think it wasn’t on purpose. No, see, they still wanted something and Tony knew how to get it.
    Peter didn’t know what it was though. He’d woken up to Tony’s screaming. He’d woken up long after Tony had bargained Peter down from the very same table Tony was being resuscitated on.
    “You’re lucky,” one of the men had told Peter in broken English. “He swore he’d never give us a damn thing if even one of your hairs was out of place.”
    xv. manhandling
    It was an experiment and it was not.
    It was Peter, seventeen years old, doing a keg stand in the middle of a crowd of whooping teenagers.
    It was Peter, barely even tipsy, downing five tequila shots in a row and running onto the dance floor.
    It was Peter, somehow, inexplicably, for one night only: one of the cool kids.
    So Ned was, predictably, worried.
    xvi. bedridden
    Pepper Stark is decidedly not sick, because Pepper Stark doesn't get sick.
    So the fact that's she's bedridden for the day means that she's probably dying.
    Tony and Peter have a particular responsibility to look after while she's working through the plague.
    xvii. drugged
    “Well,” the doctor said, “it seems you two can only tell the truth. I’ll call the team in to start working on a fix, but I do recommend you don’t leave the tower in case you say something you usually wouldn’t.”
    “I’ll be fine,” Peter said.
    The doctor raised an eyebrow but didn’t look at him. “Peter, are you Spiderman?”
    “Yes.” Peter blinked. “I see your point.”
    (Tony and Peter get truth-serumed and they take full advantage of this.)
    xviii. hostage
    “Stark,” the gunman said. “Me shooting this kid is the least of your worries.”
    It would never be the least, Tony knew. But there was a lot of other worries surrounding it, namely how he’d get Peter out of the situation, and how he was already bleeding profusely from his right shoulder, where a bullet had already pierced into his skin from when the gunners had initially entered.
    Peter’s eyes had widened and his breath had caught and a second later he was shot through. He’d dodged, minutely, and it meant all the difference. The bullet would’ve gone straight through the centre of his chest if he hadn’t.
    “I’ll be honest,” Tony said, his gun trained on the two, “you holding a kid hostage is pretty high on my list.”
    xix. exhaustion
    “Peter. You with me?”
    “Ya-huh.”
    “Alright, care to sit up?” Tony helped heave him up and Peter blinked, slow. He yawned and felt his spine squeeze out every inch of pain it could. “I’d love to have a chat with you about your health and sleeping habits,” he said, “but there’s aliens invading, so do you mind if we do it later?”
    xx. concussion
    It had happened in gym, when Peter lost focus for a moment and stacked it during the obstacle course, his head slamming into the ground. The entire gym had gone silent when Peter didn’t immediately move, before Coach Wilson raced across the room to Peter’s side, who then groaned quietly into the floor.
    Ned had volunteered to take him to the nurse’s station when he counted Wilson’s two held up fingers as six.
    xxi. harsh climate
    “Morning, Mr Stark!”
    “Hey, Pete,” Tony said, slow, nursing a cup of coffee as the holoscreens in front of him ran projections and numbers, one after another.
    “Did you see all the snow?” Peter asked, and Tony could hear the wind and distant car horns blaring.
    “Uh, yeah, I did. I also saw that you’re in your suit.”
    “Sure am.”
    “What happened to that little institution called school?”
    Peter laughed and whooped. Tony was pretty sure he’d done a flip. “Snow day! School’s cancelled!”
    xxii. friendly fire
    “There are incoming reports of an attack on the Met. Men armed with guns have attacked civilians and taken hostages. It has been claimed by the Watch Dogs,” FRIDAY announced.
    “The who now?” Tony replied.
    “The Watch Dogs,” Peter said. “They’re an anti-inhuman terrorist group. How don’t you know that?”
    If Tony could’ve shrugged while flying with a spider-child on his back, he would’ve. “Been busy raising an infant or something like that."
    xxiii. self-sacrifice
    There is one gun.
    There is one bullet.
    You may not shoot yourself.
    Someone must die.
    If no one is killed, you all die.
    You have one hour.
    xxiv. drowning
    Tony frowned as he logged into the Baby Monitor app he’d made to connect to the Spiderman suit. Peter’s heartrate was off the charts and he’d been sitting in the same spot on the Brooklyn Bridge for almost an hour.
    “I’m fine, Mr Stark.”
    Tony hated that he recognised the lie when he heard it. He knew it because he’d sounded the same way before. He’d said the same, defeated I’m fine that Peter was saying, and he knew it meant the opposite.
    xxv. restraints
    “Daddy says you hurt,” Morgan said, a frown so deep it caused wrinkles between her brows. Peter gently reached out a hand to smooth it out, trying for a tired smile.
    “I’m okay,” he promised. “Where is your Daddy?”
    She shrugged. “Big idea.”
    “He had a big idea?”
    Morgan nodded. “Mommy said you wouldn’t like it.”
    Peter frowned. This couldn’t be good.
    xxvi. broken ribs
    "It’s like your rib is just out of position. You just woke up like this?”
    “Yeah. I mean, I got punched in that area during sparring the other day – Happy had a field day with it. But, I didn’t feel anything until today.”
    Rhodey shrugged. “Bones, man.”
    “Bones, man,” Tony agreed, in the same disdainful tone.
    xxvii. "i can't walk"
    It happened in a crash.
    A blinding, blistering pain, then nothing.
    The loud screech of metal, the slam of cars against cars against walls. Crumbling brick. Shouts of fear, of pain. The air bag going off, Happy’s grunt.
    A flash of light, like the sun, burning into Peter’s retinas for just heartbeat. Then gone, like it never existed. The car shaking, everything shaking.
    The blinding, blistering pain, then nothing.
    xxviii. seizure
    Tony Stark had a seizure that morning.
    He had one, he got checked out, told that while it looked like an epileptic seizure, it was actually caused by stress, and was sent back to his room with strict instructions to rest.
    Tony Stark, futurist, mechanic, Iron Man, did not do rest.
    xxix. caregiver
    “Hey!” Peter called when he reached the alley.
    Ahead of him was a man in a dark jacket, a knife outstretched, and a short woman with trembling hands, her handbag being yanked into the mugger’s grasp.
    “There are young, impressionable minds present,” Peter said. “Please set a good example for them.”
    The mugger blinked at him. “What the hell? Is that a baby?”
    Peter shrugged, Morgan babbled in his ear. “It’s bring your sister to work day, what can I say?"
    xxx. showdown
    Mr Stark knighted him. “You’re an Avenger, kid.”
    Peter started to smile, and then grew serious. Avengers dealt with the big stuff. Avengers dealt with global threats. Avengers were responsible for an entire planet.
    Avengers weren’t soldiers, but this was certainly a war.
    Peter had never been fit for battle, but he turned on his heel and followed after Mr Stark anyway. There was a whole planet counting on him now.
    Some people think that Peter is Tony's son. Why shouldn't they? Peter seems to be orbiting Tony all the time, and it's not like the billionaire tells him off. They have a nice relationship - Peter is glad to have a father figure, and Tony cares for the kid as if he's actually his son.
    The first problem regarding this arises when the people who think that Peter is Tony's son kidnap him for ransom.
    The second problem regarding this arises when one of the people who kidnaps Peter turns out to be Mac Gargan, the Scorpion, and he's hungry for revenge.
