    On an otherwise ordinary wartime day, a cable frayed.

    Until They Don't

    Until they don't.
    Howzer doesn't regret the choice he made.

    A Reckless Need

    “I think I’ve hurt Ryloth enough," Howzer said.
    Cham inhaled sharply.
    “Is that what this is about?” he demanded. “Why you’ve been so reckless? Do you think you have to atone for what happened?”

    -A Jedi Saying, from Dai Bendu

    Abruptly trapped and stranded on an unpopulated planet behind enemy lines, and poised to remain stuck there for the foreseeable future, Obi-wan Kenobi has a lot of time on his hands and a single connection to the outside world to speak with. Unfortunately, it only works one way. The rest of the galaxy gains an open line to the unfiltered thoughts of one of its most famous Jedi Masters.

    Or, the meditations of a man sitting at rock bottom.

    Set in multiple parts, this is a Time-Travel Obi-Wan story where Obi-Wan (Ben) is sent back in time soon after his death. From there it's the usual time-travel shenanigans, albeit with a twist; the Butterfly Effect sends ripples farther and quicker than he realizes it would.

    Part 1: Character Sheets.
    Part 2: Krayt Wizard of the Wastes. First in story. Ben in Tatooine.
    Part 3: Korda-6. Ben lands on Korda-6 and Meets some Mandalorians.
    Part 4: Pit-Stop. Ben and Co crash land on an unknown planet.
    Part 5: Revenant: Ben and Co get to the Jedi temple.
    Part 6: Redamancy: Ben and Co continue to navigate their new normal's, and the ever-changing ripples of the Butterfly Effect grow ever bigger.

    World Building, Lore, & Character Sheets

    Hello! This is NOT the first part of the fic/story, that would be "Krayt Wizard of the Wastes." Should be Part 2.

    The first chapter of this work is the Character Sheets! The second chapter is simply a glimpse into my writing process if anyone's interested, and then the third 'chapter' is some questions/lore that I've answered and written out - though beware of spoilers in ch. 2 and 3.

    I hope that the character sheet is useful! There's... so many characters in SW. Like... So many. And I'm over here also adding my OC's into it, lol. So hopefully this is helpful!

    Krayt Wizard of the Wastes

    When Obi-Wan is sent back in time soon after his death, he quickly realizes that there are a lot of things for him to do to avoid another Sith take-over.

    He supposes, since he's already on Tattooine, that he can start there.

    Korda-6

    After leaving Shmi and the others to the Freedom Trail to get settled, the Force pulls Ben off-course from Coruscant to another planet he's heard of before, but which holds no significance as far as he's aware: Korda-6.

    He wonders what he'll find there.

    Pit-Stop

    While on their way to the Jedi Temple, Ben, Master Plo, Knight Feemor, Padawan Dalighna Mee, and Marcainto are attacked! Crash landed on an unknown planet and with members injured, there's character interactions galore as they wait for a pickup.

    Revenant

    After being picked up by the Jedi, and leaving their crashed ship behind for others to investigate, Ben and Co finally make their way to the Jedi temple on Coruscant. Once there, Ben has to navigate his own harsh past-life, while also appreciating the calm peace of his current one.

    ... While also telling the Jedi that the Sith are back. Like, for real. That is... definitely another, main thing, on his to-do list.

    Redamacy

    A direct continuation of Revenant, Redamacy follows Ben continuing to live his second chance at life within the Jedi temple. Turmoil and shenanigans follow.

    Different Perspectives

    Taking a break from Ben, we check in on what two other characters are doing. Set after Redamancy and just before Ben and Co's trip to Jedha.

    Chapter one: Little Obi! (The original timeline's (AKA non-time travel) Obi-Wan).
    Chapter two: Jaster Mereel.

    Glistening

    Ben, along with his Master Plo Koon, and Knight Feemor and his two Padawan/charges Dalighna and Marcainto all head to Jedha; both for Ben to get his kyber crystal, and as a sort of vacation.

    They get into trouble before they even arrive on-planet.

    The Plot Thickens

    As Ben leaves Jedha, we check in with what's been happening with little Obi. At first, all seems well - well, except for a run in with a certain someone - but the plot soon thickens...

    Manda/Ka'ra

    After the events of The Plot Thickens, Ben heads off with some Jedi to meet with Jaster Mereel for answers. Plus, also, to meet him in person for the first time in over a year, as well as meet more of the True Mandalorian faction.

    And he also may just meet Jaster's elusive little sibling...

    Summary

    This series explores two intertwined narratives: the adventures of time-traveling Obi-Wan and the reactions from the core, particularly the Jedi. It presents a Jedi-positive perspective but challenges the traditional notion of Jedi training. The series questions the importance of time in training versus the impact of experiences on a Jedi's potency. Drawing on examples from Legends, canon, and games, I posit that the skills of a Jedi could be taught to adults/teenagers in a relatively short time. It’s the mastery of self that would take the most time, and ultimately why the late-modern Republic’s Jedi training started with children.

    Anthology containing:

    Unbound

    When Obi-Wan "Ben" Kenobi wakes up on Tatooine decades before his exile there, he finds himself mysteriously young again with a second chance to change the galaxy's fate. Guided by the Force, he meets Shmi Skywalker before Anakin's birth and sets in motion a plan to free the slaves of Tatooine.

    As he trains Shmi in the ways of the Jedi and builds a rebellion against the Hutts, Ben discovers that the Force has larger plans for him: to spread Jedi teachings throughout the Outer Rim and create a movement that will endure even if the Order falls.

    But first, they must break the chains of Tatooine and ensure that Anakin Skywalker is born free.

    Light in Shadows

    Jedi Master Tholme and his Padawan Quinlan Vos head to the armpit of the galaxy, Tatooine, to figure out just what has been going on there, and whether the Jedi need be worried.

    Part of the Hedge!Jedi series.

    Naritir Jate Ibic Norac at Yaim

    Ben runs into a certain Mandalorian and helps break his chains. That Mandalorian goes home and is confused for a while, but things work out.

    The Field Scholar

    Knight Cara Lroft would rather spend her days in the dirt with crumbling stones and half-buried holocrons than anywhere else. But when her research draws the attention of Jocasta Nu herself, Cara finds her work (and her unorthodox training) suddenly under scrutiny. What begins as an archaeological dig quickly becomes a test of legitimacy, politics, and the value of knowledge...

    Centaxday’s Live Broadcast of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Jedi Affairs Hearing on G-SPAN

    Today on G-SPAN: Live coverage from the Senate Judiciary Committee on Jedi Affairs. Master Mace Windu testifies on reports of ‘Hedge Jedi’ in the Outer Rim. Are they rogue Force users threatening galactic commerce or freedom fighters liberating the enslaved? Senators press for answers. And later: your calls from across the galaxy. Stay tuned to G-SPAN for all your Senate news needs.

    Echoes in Kyber

    Six years after being sent back in time, Ben Kenobi has created a movement. He has freed the enslaved and trained new Jedi. Now, on the holy moon of Jedha for a much-needed rest, he takes time to reflect on the galaxy he is reshaping. He may have started the fire, but it has now taken on a life of its own.

    A Disturbance in the Outer Rim

    The Force moves in ways the Council cannot always predict. Sent to a remote world to confront a growing darkness, Masters Plo Koon and Ki-Adi-Mundi instead find the light prevailed before they arrived. Their encounter with two 'hedge Jedi' provides unexpected answers that the full Council will need to meditate on.

    Shadows in the Sand

    Ben is on the hunt for a mysterious Jedi killer. The Force leads him back to Tatooine... Will be arrive in time or will the count of dead Jedi include some of his dearest friends?

    The Hood Stays Up

    After one of Qui-Gon's more "creative" diplomatic efforts lands them in a dungeon, Obi-Wan is prepared for a long wait. What he isn't prepared for is a rescue by a mysterious, hooded Jedi Master named Ben who looks suspiciously familiar and is absolutely terrible at trying to hide his face. A very familiar face.

    This Menace Ain’t No Phantom (Anymore)

    In a galaxy once destined for darkness, Ben Kenobi has spent almost a decade in the past training a new kind of Jedi. He knows the Battle of Naboo is coming and the Force is telling him to act.

    The Trade Federation won't know what hit it.

    Or: The Hedge!Jedi take on The Phantom Menace and things go off the rails.

    Hedge!Jedi AU Commentary

    Some behind the scenes info and a deeper dive into my Hedge!Jedi AU (starting with Unbound.)

    Chapter one, for example is a deep dive into The Ballad of Nomi Sunrider I wrote and used in Chapter 8 of Unbound.

    Anthology containing:

    Being Alone is So Cold (And You Are So Warm)

    Tim wants one person on his team to know his name, just for now. Superboy may seem like an unlikely candidate but he trusts Kon. And honestly? More than trust, Tim just doesn't want to feel alone for once in his life.

    A Little Secret

    Clark meets the new Robin. This Robin smiles with a glacier-like coldness and breathes secret names with an ease that makes Clark freeze.

    Blackberry Tea

    An Alfred Pennyworth view of his almost-son Bruce and the child who decided to save him.

    A Weapon is a Girl

    She was nothing.
    She was a weapon.
    She is Cass.

    Shadow Girls, Shadow Boys, They Haunt Every Corner

    There is a girl lurking in the shadows of Jason's room. When he sleeps, the girl paralyzes him and reminds him of a bird's wings.

    There is a boy creeping silently into Jason's spaces. When he is not there, the boy slips in and leaves confusion in his wake.

    Tim's School of Passable Normality

    After Kon asks a random question about something fairly normal, Tim decides that he should introduce Kon and Bart to some of the most normal, teenager things he knows of. Is it a coping mechanism to deal with the major upheavals in his life? Um, well, maybe, but Kon and Bart deserve normal things! It's just that...Tim is really, really weird and his perception of normal is definitely messed up.

    Heavy is the Head That Bears the Cowl

    They're on opposite sides of the world, but Dick and Tim are both making bad decisions together. Funny how these things work, isn't it?

    Red Atheris

    Atheris Hispida:
    A species of viper. Previously, the venom of said viper was not thought to be particularly dangerous. This misconception has been corrected in the recent years of study revealing that the venom of this ambush predator can cause severe hemorrhaging of internal organs.

    The Nest

    Tim makes a Nest. Is it a bird's Nest or a snake's? Depends on who you are.

    Do You Stay the Same or Change Your Ways?

    Bruce returns to a home that isn't whole anymore. Does he stay the same, mission oriented and content with his empty home? Or does he change and become a man who might be a better father, a better human?

    Consultation Work

    Jason expects the first work he does with Red Robin to be some kind of drugs bust or trafficking take down. It's actually consultation work for the Neon Knights' Project Rebirth.

    CODE: Caroline

    When a need for an undercover agent surfaces, there's only one Bat for the job. Tim never realized how different his training was until CODE: Caroline put into action.

    Doctor, Except for Everything, I Am Perfectly Fine

    Alfred and Bruce decide they have to update the kids' medical information. If the others aren't a fan if this, then Tim is even worse. Guess who's missing his spleen?

    Sebastian Ives and the Particularly Strange Friend Group

    Ives is back in town and calls up his old friends to hang out. Only, Tim wants them all to meet his best friends. Ives should really plan for Tim more often.

    Jason and the Spooks

    Jason, regrettably, has to team up with Red Robin and Black Bat. Actually, maybe this isn't the worst thing possible. Vegan dark chocolate peanut butter cups are involved.

    Summary

    A long long time ago, in a somewhat kinder galaxy far away...

    - An unnamed Jedi's timely warning prevents the tragedy of Galidraan.
    - Mand'alor Jango Fett, considering himself to have a life-debt to the Jedi, offers safety and sanctuary to Obi-Wan and the Kryze sisters during the Clan Wars.
    - Obi-Wan falls in love: first with Mandalore, and then the Mand'alor.
    - Two of the most capable warrior cultures begin to stop seeing each other as enemies.

    The galaxy slowly turns onto a better path than the endless cycle of tragedies that is canon.

    Anthology containing:

    a light along the path

    Jango made it to the top of the slope and leaned against a large rock, close enough to talk comfortably, but with enough space between them that the jetiika shouldn't feel crowded. Everyone had seen the footage of Obi-Wan fighting like a feral strill when cornered.

    He was a survivor, that much was abundantly clear. Jango knew very well that he wouldn't get a chance to finish a civil conversation if the jetiika felt the slightest bit threatened.

    OR: Mand'alor Jango Fett offers sanctuary to the Kryze sisters and their jetii protector when they're on the run from Kyr'tsad during the Clan Wars, setting the stage for a united Manda'yaim. Respect and friendship naturally follow. The romance was unexpected.

    and breathe in the bright moments

    The Force is very clear: Jedi help is no longer needed to secure peace for Mandalore. Their mission has come to an end.

    Obi-Wan goes to Jango for one last night of pleasure before he and Master Qui-Gon leave to return to the Coruscant.

    gleaming through the widening cracks

    While working to load up emergency aid for a neutral clan who was attacked by Kyr'tsad, Satine also does some work on her internalized biases.

    like fireworks blooming

    A quintet of Senior Padawans (and a freshly knighted Jedi Pilot) arrive on Manda'yaim to attend the system-wide party celebrating the five-year anniversary of the unification under Mand'alor Jango Fett.

    Rumors that the leader of the Evaar'ade received private communications discussing in depth the specific phrases to use in the invitation to ensure that the Republic and the Coruscant Temple sent the jetii'ade they wanted are, of course, entirely spurious. Obi-Wan is an upstanding young Jedi, and everyone knows a Jedi would never stoop to using underhanded methods.

    OR: Obi-Wan finally gets the chance to introduce his creche clan to the planet and culture that claimed his heart. He also gets a chance to catch up with Jango again. Neither of them is willing to let that chance go to waste.

    twinkling across the distance

    A young creed-bound beroya shares a story about meeting Obi-Wan and getting pulled into his chaotic shenanigans.

    Jango would feel a lot better about this story if a) Obi-Wan's plans were a bit less reckless and b) the beroya didn't keep mentioning falling in love with Obi-Wan.

    a new dawn breaking

    Mandalore was reclassified as officially friendly to Jedi six years ago.

    Agricorps Master Koom arrives on the planet with a specific goal in mind.

    hold to what yet illuminates

    Grieving his Master, freshly knighted with a padawan he is not ready for, there is only one place in the galaxy Obi-Wan wants to go:
    Home.

    Dal Segno, Al Fine (Make it Brighter) | Year 1

    The Clone Wars were an aberration. They were never supposed to happen and the evil man behind what forces manipulated the Clone Wars into being was never meant to survive long enough to do much of anything significant.

    At the End of Ahsoka's days, she is offered a choice the Mother: to take the rest she so thoroughly deserves, or to go back to the section of History that should never have happened to go through it all to the end again, this time armed with enough foreknowledge to even out the odds of the rigged game. It's never even half a question for her, so when she accepts, she's given yet another gift, the chance to ask the same of her dearest friends...

    Year 1 covers the events of 22BBY from Christophsis to Skytop Station.
    Also, this IS a Rexsoka endgame, but it's very slow burn and most of it can easily be read as nothing more than a close friendship, if you so chose, and it has plenty of special-connection drama between multiple other variations of the most popular Clone Wars pairings. (With input from readers being a significant factor in what pairings make prominent appearances!)

    Tales of the Jedi: Stories about lightsabers, masters, and apprentices. Disney canon compliant.

    Anthology containing:

    Clarity.

    Mace first sees the crystal when he invites his new padawan to meditate with him.

    Devotions.

    Your lightsaber is your life, his master tells him, early on in his apprenticeship.  Your blade will be devoted to you, and so you must devote your life to your lightsaber in turn.  Keep it close.

    This is the first lesson Obi-Wan learns, sitting at his master’s feet and watching closely as Qui-Gon bends over his lightsaber.

    (A story about lightsabers, masters, and apprentices.)

    Resonance.

    And there is his padawan, alone in the dim lighting of the Temple’s evening, moving through a kata with an unfamiliar orange blade in his hand.

    Sanctum.

    Obi-Wan has never felt another like the loss of so many Jedi at once.  It is as though the Force has been torn asunder, unable to mend itself.  He hears the cries echoing in his head long after these voices fall silent.

    He should release these feelings into the Force; this is his duty as a Jedi.  But the very power that he must surrender his grief to is the same power that pains him to touch.

    Written for Anthem of the Broken: An Obi-Wan Kenobi Fanzine.

    Living memory.

    Kanan has been on the run for the majority of his life. And danger has become merely another tool he wields, as much as his blaster or saber.

    At night, Kanan examines his memories.

    Call and song.

    Even in the animal world, birds find each other through call and song.  Jedi seek Jedi; it is as natural as breathing, and he and Luke are among the last of their kind.  Unsurprising then, that they should keep finding one another, even out here in the desert, where so many of the lost wander the sands.

    Excoriate.

    The kyber does not flash at him in recognition, as it had once before when he had been another man, when its owner had fallen to the ground unconscious and disarmed, when he had snatched up this lightsaber and wielded it alongside his own.  Nor does the kyber does not seem to know its master is dead.  Vader can recall stories of fallen Jedi whose lightsabers grieved the loss of their wielder, their sorrow bleeding through the Force.

    Vader closes his eyes and reaches out with the Force, connecting with the crystal.

    Who is your master?

    Ways and means.

    Din sighs. “I’m here because I need you to teach me how to use...” He gestures at the darksaber hanging from his belt.  “Well.  This.”

    Gatherings.

    Finn finds himself glancing away, off to the shadow on the horizon that the navicomputer calls the Jundland Wastes.  There's a whisper in his mind, quiet as dried leaves skittering across the ground.

    He leaves Rey kneeling in the sand, her spirit deep in communion with the Force.

    My Percy Jackson fics that are all set within the same universe (and not related AT ALL to my other PJO series) or any standalone fic not included here, just so I can keep things organised.

    Lots of found family, family bonding, hurt comfort, etc... canon pairings only, and I'm trying to keep everything as canon compliant as possible. The fic "And I Will Always Be There For You" has some continuity issues mostly regarding Jason at this point, but otherwise? It works in this series haha, so oh well

    Anthology containing:

    This Delicate Place

    "Many of us care not for our demigod children," the man said, his voice deep and commanding.

    Jason's eyes widened as he realised who this visitor was, feeling like he'd been thrown overboard and told to swim for shore. He was Roman and rarely met the Gods, but had done his research on the Ancient Greek myths, on the stories older than Rome by thousands of years. Poseidon was not a god to trifle with or disrespect, and Jason was convinced he was about to die. He'd let Percy fall after all, and the Lord of the Seas would surely want to kill him for failing his son.

    For failing his favourite child.

    ~~~~~
    Shortly after Percy and Annabeth fall into Tartarus, the Argo II gets a godly visitor.
    when silence is comfortable
    It wasn't as if Jason didn't like Percy. On the contrary, he'd count the older demigod as a friend and an ally. If he had to choose someone to fight beside him, Jason would choose the Son of Poseidon time and time again. It was just that Percy seemed to be so much more than Jason—so much better. Jason couldn't help but feel as though he had been measured and found lacking compared to the other demigod.
    Percy, on the other hand, likes Jason well enough, but between recovering from Tartarus, the war, school, and life in general, he didn't tend to think of the Son of Jupiter often. He was an ally, someone he could fight beside and trust, but that was about the extent of it.
    A road trip together to pick up a new demigod and bring them back to camp changes things.
    ———
    Or, how Percy and Jason went from friendly allies, to actual friends.
    the markings of your life
    Being a demigod meant having scars - it was just a fact of life. Sometimes they were too late with ambrosia, too busy, or just didn't notice an injury. But the scars on Percy's hips, the raised circular welts that looked like they had been there for years, left a terrible feeling in the pit of Jason's stomach. Percy's reaction when he pointed them out just made him more concerned.
    In which Jason is a good bro, Smelly Gabe was a little worse than in canon, and Annabeth is amazing.
    'cause I'll always have your back
    Leo and Calypso are back. Annabeth has a few things to say to them both. Mainly about how they treated Percy. After all, it's not like Percy asked to be kidnapped and have his memories forcibly taken from him. That made it a little difficult to make Zeus honour his promise.
    Little Soldier Boy
    After Tartarus and the war with Gaea, Percy is falling apart at the seams. He cannot sleep, cannot focus, is jumping at shadows, and is prone to waking up with a scream on his lips. Annabeth was getting better, slowly but surely, with the help of a demigod therapist Chiron had found for them. But Percy? Percy wasn't getting better, no matter how hard he tried.
    Poseidon, seeing his beloved son struggling, takes him to Atlantis, Zeus be damned. He will help his child heal and give him the love he deserves. And, if he gets to keep his favourite son by his side, that's only a bonus.
    AKA Poseidon takes Percy to Atlantis and spoils him rotten, and Percy somehow endears himself to the people within a day.
    _______
    Set directly before: he ain't heavy, he's my brother
    he ain't heavy, he's my brother
    Percy doesn’t get migraines very often, thank the Gods, but when he does they tend to knock him on his ass for days, regardless of drugs, ocean water, sleep, ambrosia, or anything else he’d tried. He just had to wait (suffer) it out.
    It was just his luck that his first migraine in literally years would hit when he was visiting his father in Atlantis for the first time after the war with Gaea. And instead of waking up with one and being able to hide in his rooms, he’d have to collapse in public, right after talking to his half brother Triton.
    If it didn’t hurt so damn much he’d be embarrassed.
    and grown up dreams
    Percy grinned up at him, looking impossibly young. Triton fought the urge to take him and keep him here, keep him safe and away from the surface world. He may be unsure of his relationship with his brother, but even he could not deny that Percy had been through far too much in his impossibly short lifetime. He would not wish the weight of prophecy upon his worst enemy, let alone his family. Especially family he could very well be coming to like.
    Maybe.
    ~~~

    Triton maybe, just maybe, is starting to like Percy. Not that he was going to admit that to anyone else, if he could help it.

    Someone to You

    Anna wasn't sure what to think of Percy Jackson, truth be told, having only met him twice. She adored her daughter in law Sally and her little granddaughter, but there was something about Percy that put her on edge. She had no idea what - he was a kind boy, eager to help with his baby sister when most teenagers would run for the hills and clearly adored his mother - but there was just something about him, something about his too-bright eyes that made her feel uneasy.

    ~~~
    Or, Paul's parents are taking care of Estelle for a few days. When picking her up, they meet Percy again as well as his older brother (what was his name? Tri?). At this point, Anna just wants to know what the dad looks like to have kids that look like THIS. Especially when, several days later, they meet the stepmother as well.
    Little Scraps of Wisdom
    Paul couldn't do much for Percy, not really. He couldn't see through the mist, couldn't help him train, couldn't heal him… but he could offer him a home and a listening ear. He could remind him about school work, prod him to get out of bed, to eat, could take care of him when he was ill, and just be there for him. What Percy needed now was to be clean, comfortable, and have someone look after him. And Paul would happily be that person for the boy he loved like a son.
    Or, Paul Blofis is the father Percy deserves, no matter what.
    Darling It's Better
    Percy accidentally/on purpose turns himself into a merman. And can't figure out how to turn himself back. Piper is curious, Jason finds it hilarious, the rest of the Seven don't really know how to react, and Annabeth finds it really, REALLY, hot. She doesn't, however, appreciate how much Piper seems to love HER boyfriends newfound tail. He's hers, and she's not going to let him forget it.
    And I Will Always Be There For You
    One of these days, Percy was going to go to Olympus and demand the gods did something about all the monsters that ran amok. He could deal with the small ones (though, truth be told, they tended to avoid him, now), but some were insistent. Percy knew he’d made enemies with various monsters throughout his life, but this was starting to get ridiculous.
    “One of these days,” Annabeth said, pushing a loose strand of hair off her face, “we’re going to have a normal date.” She sounded just as annoyed as Percy felt, if not more.
    “I hope so,” Percy grumbled. He spun Riptide in a large arc, passing through several monsters in one go. They dissipated into dust, briefly overtaking his vision. “This is getting old.”
    —
    AKA Thirty Chapters of Hurt/Comfort, as I apparently can't do anything but make Percy suffer, one way or another.
    Awake, Awake, You Children Bold
    Sally smiled up at Poseidon, meeting his eyes, sea-green shot through with gold. She wondered if their son would inherit the same otherworldly gaze. "If my life is going to mean anything, I have to live it myself," she insisted. "Trust me."
    "I do," he whispered. Then, "I must leave you," he continued, putting one hand on her stomach. "Take care."
    Sally closed her eyes, unwilling to watch her lover disappear for what she knew would be the last time. "You and me, kid," she murmured. "We can do this."
    —
    Or, Sally and Percy throughout the years, for better or for worse.
    make a shelter out in the storm
    Percy Jackson was the best person Max had ever met.
    He was kind, which was a relatively new concept in Max's still short life. When Max had first come to Camp he hadn't made a single friend, nor had he known who his godly parent was. He'd hated it, even though home hadn't been much better. Max had made friends since and loved Camp Half Blood and knew who his mother was, but Percy was still his favourite person in the world, someone who made him feel safe and loved.
    Which was why Max hated Shane Edwards more than words could adequately describe.
    —————
    Or, Percy attracts some not so good attention. But Max has a plan. If Percy wouldn't going to put a stop to Shane, Max would call someone who would.
    In a Field of Dandelions
    "You okay there?" she asked once she was closer, smiling in what she hoped was a welcoming manner.
    The man smiled back, still looking a bit confused. Nicky's breath caught in her chest when he met her eyes. His gaze was a little too vivid, his bone structure a little too perfect. He seemed a little too much more than human. Part of her wanted to run, while another part wanted to follow him to the ends of the earth and beyond.
    "I think so," he replied, breaking the spell. "Just trying to figure out day one, I suppose. I'm Percy!"
    -----
    Percy and Annabeth's eldest child starts school. Percy inadvertently causes a bit of a stir, and Annabeth isn't jealous, not at all.
    The Purest Expression of Grief
    “You are going to die,” Poseidon said, feeling himself break as he looked at his child.
    Percy smiled up at him, dark hair floating around his face. “One day,” he agreed. “It’s okay, dad. I’m happy.”
    “You would leave me bereft of you?”
    ———
    Poseidon has had demigod children before. He’d never loved one quite as much as he loves Percy.
    The Sound of Your Loneliness
    "It's not like you to think of the happiness of your children," Hera said, "if you indeed think of your children at all."
    Much to Hera's surprise, Poseidon laughed. "Percy's different," he said once he'd calmed down. He met her eyes, something far too knowing in his gaze. Hera was reminded of ages long past and how Poseidon had, before Apollo's birth, held dominion over Delphi.
    "He's a demigod," she snapped in reply, though she knew Poseidon told the truth. There was something more about Percy Jackson—they could all see it. It was even more than that, however, though Hera refused to voice the thought aloud, even to herself.
    ———
    Or, Hera can’t help but hate and love Percy for being everything she could not have. The perfect son, the loving partner, and a demigod better than the world had seen in millennia.
    Bless the Children, Give Them Triumph Now
    "You are doubting," Artemis noted.
    Thalia looked up at Artemis again, eyes wide. "Never, my lady!" she insisted. "I could never doubt you."
    "Not me, Thalia," she chided gently. "You are doubting yourself and your place."
    "My place is with you," Thalia said.
    “Are you sure?" Artemis asked, an expression in her eyes Thalia had never seen before. She stared at the goddess' face, feeling like she was about to fall into the abyss. She had spent so much time walking with the gods that she often forgot how much more they were.
    ———
    Thalia Grace has seen and faced much in her life. She'd seen her mother drive herself mad for love, her brother disappear without a trace, monsters beyond most people's wildest imaginations, and so much more.
    She had not expected it to be so hard to live in peace.
    Let Us Go Singing As Far As We Go
    "For most," Kymopoleia agreed. "Have you never longed for immortality?" Her lips twisted into a cruel smile, and she lifted her tail from the waves before letting it fall again with a resounding crash. "Your father offered Perseus immortality, after all. Do you not long for that as well? Do you not wish to have the same respect as my erstwhile brother?”
    "No," Jason said honestly. He knew Percy didn’t long for immortality either. In that, at least, they were similar. "Never."
    “Shame,” she said. “You would make a wonderful god.”
    ———
    Jason is spending his time building temples for the forgotten gods. He hadn’t expected how lonely it would be.
    Better Than Their Fathers
    “Hey, buddy, you shouldn’t be up! Did you need anything?”
    Poseidon froze. It took a great deal to surprise him but apparently, this was one of the few things that could stop him in his tracks. He didn’t think he’d ever been called buddy before.
    “Percy?” Paul pushed, still cleaning his glasses on his shirt.
    Ah.
    “I am not Percy,” Poseidon said. “Though, I shall take the confusion as a compliment.”
    —
    Otherwise Known As: Five times someone mistook Poseidon for Percy, and one time someone thought Percy was Poseidon instead.
    Happiness Does Not Wait
    "Who said anything about a quest, child?" Amphitrite asked, laughter in her voice. It reminded Percy of Kymopoleia's, much to his discomfort. He hardly had good memories of his godly sister.
    “Gods don’t tend to want anything else from me,” Percy pointed out dryly. “You lot always want something.”
    “Of course I want something,” Amphitrite said, voice awash in amusement. “I want you to come to Atlantis,” she continued, cutting him off right as he was about to speak. She started to walk again, bypassing throngs of gaping students. She was hiding her divinity, but she still looked so much more than human. “As I said, your father misses your presence. And he is incredibly irritating when he sulks.”
    —
    Or, Percy spends some time with his godly stepmother, much to his bafflement.
    Of All That Breathe and Crawl Across the Earth
    "All of you demigods are bred for war, for me," Ares said. "That's just a fact of life." He took another drag of his cigar, then snuffed it out on the bricks near Jackson's ear. "You're chess pieces to move as we want, and nothing more."
    Jackson laughed, his voice echoing in the small alleyway in a way no mortals should. "I'm surprised you even know what chess is," he snapped. He grinned, all sharp teeth and eyes that saw far too much. "I thought that was more Athena's area. You're just carnage."
    Ares tightened his grip, wanting to see the boy squirm. Jackson reminded him of someone from millennia past, a Hero still loved by the ages. Ares wished he could place who.
    —
    Ares takes notice of Percy Jackson. Even he isn't sure if it's a good thing, not when his very presence seems to bring back memories of things best left forgotten.
    The Sorrows of Your Soul
    “I broke it as a kid, and it never quite healed right,” Percy said, stopping Nico and Annabeth from sniping further, and saving Will from having to play referee. “That’s all.”
    Nico had been through so much more than him. So many demigods had, especially those who lived at camp year round. A poorly healed break was nothing, nor were Gabe’s other actions. Percy had no reason to feel so ill at the mere mention of the man. It made him feel like a fraud, or like a terrified child again. He knew Gabe was not normal, but Percy wasn’t either. Nothing about life as a demigod was.
    Nico closed his mouth with a snap, eyes narrowed.
    —
    Or, Percy doesn't think Gabe was that bad, at least not in terms of demigod levels of bad.
    Right?
    I've Got Real Love, Baby!
    “Percy! My favourite demigod!”
    Annabeth was going to start keeping a spray bottle on her. She was sure someone in the Hephaestus cabin had something that could keep gods away. It may explode if she pressed the wrong thing, but she was willing to take that risk.
    —
    Children of the Stars
    “I didn’t know where else to go,” Nico di Angelo said in a rush, standing in front of her apartment with a tired look on his too young face. “I—I’ve been looking for Percy,” he continued, sniffling slightly. He scuffed one foot along the floor. “But I haven’t had any luck.”
    Sally opened the door even more widely. She didn’t have soup to offer him, not yet, but she had freshly baked cookies and leftover takeout. “Come in,” she ordered softly. “You’re always welcome here.”
    Nico blinked up at her, looking far younger than his years, then allowed Sally to usher him through the entryway and into the small but warm kitchen. She smiled at him, just like she would at Percy. She may not have her son with her, may not be able to help him, but she could help Nico. When Annabeth returned, she could help Annabeth, as well as any other demigod who may cross her path.
    She'd even be sure to have freshly made blue cookies, always.
    —
    Sally Jackson was no saint, no matter what her son (or, apparently, Hestia), seemed to think. But she would never turn down a child in need. She couldn’t help on quests, but she could give them a mother’s love, and a space to be safe. And, of course, some blue cookies.
    Lay Down Your Burdens
    Poseidon decides that Percy’s done enough in his short life, and takes matters into his own hands. His beloved child needn’t suffer any longer. Nothing will cause him pain, distress, frustration, or any minor inconvenience.
    Percy had been prepared for many things as a demigod. He had not, however, been prepared for an overprotective godly father.
    —
    Or, five times Poseidon “protected” Percy, and one time he didn't need to.
    Too Well Tangled In My Soul
    “You should be sleeping,” he murmured, eyes half-lidded with exhaustion. He smiled at her, just like he had in the pit, then turned his gaze back to the vast blackness of the Mediterranean, hands tight on the railing. Annabeth pressed herself closer to his side, needing the physical closeness. He was cold (so was she), but Annabeth didn’t care. Being away from him felt like being gutted with a blade or like missing a limb.
    “I was,” she said after a moment. “You were gone.”
    —
    Annabeth was fine, after Tartarus. She had to be fine. They had a quest to finish and the world to save. And no matter, she was far more concerned about Percy.
    Patience
    It hadn't been a full day since they left Sorgan, and Din struggled to let the child out of his line of sight. The Crest wasn't a large ship, but the child was so small. Din couldn't bear to feel the way he had when a shot echoed across the krill pond, the sudden, terrible thought that the child had died.
    He hadn't, of course, but it had brought to light the inescapable thought that Din's desire to protect the child was more than just perfunctory. He cared for him, and Din wanted to protect the child from further harm.
    May You Bloom and Grow
    "S'cuy, Ad'ika," Din said quietly, letting the words he had told the child flow through his mind. The pledge of fatherhood hung softly on his heart; the formal ownership of the child's wellbeing had not been taken lightly.
    It was only a sentence, a short one at that. But Din removed his helm and brought the child close to him, their foreheads touching, little claws gripping the scruff of Din's chin as he repeated the words over and over. He tried to tell the child how much he cared for him, loved him, even without words. His throat had thickened as the child's eyes widened at the sight. Din knew that he was nothing special to look at, but he hoped that the child wasn't disappointed.
    If I Could Never Give You Peace
    Every morning when he woke, it was the child who gripped Din's attention. Not the next bounty, not the stores or his injuries. But a small hand, three tiny claws gripping the hem of Din's tunic and warbling happily with half-closed eyes.
    Din reached closer, pulling the child under the wrap of his cape. Space was cold, he reasoned to himself as he closed his eyes. And the child was so small, and Maker knows where he was before Din found him. Whoever he was, and whatever he was, Din was his father, and he loved the child with all of his heart.
    Farewell, O Farewell
    "Are you still looking for your Jedi?" Cara asked carefully, taking another sip of her drink.
    "Yes," Din said, fighting to keep his voice level. Since his meeting with Ahsoka Tano, Din had tried avoiding thinking about it. He knew that the child deserved what the Jedi had to offer; he could be reunited with his kind. Perhaps he'd be loved, even, trained and raised away from Din.
    The thought was almost too much to bear; the moments he had spent with the baby on the Crest waiting for Ahsoka to return were the hardest he could remember. He had been willing to give the baby up, give him his best chance— even if it meant that Din would never see the child again.
    It's Just a Dream I Had in Mind
    For so long, Din fought the reality of giving the child up, giving him to the jetii and moving on. He had prepared for it, packed a bag and left it all behind, so his son could have the life he deserved.
    All until he didn't have to.
    Or the one where Luke rescues Grogu on Tython, and Din rescues Luke in return.
    Harry Potter and the Power of Proper Communication
    After the Christmas argument about Harry's Firebolt, Hermione decides that she's not putting up with the boys' sulking anymore, and she's going to do something about it. What happens next is a testament to the strong bonds forged through people actually talking to each other, the desperation involved in keeping your best friend alive and in one piece, and the desire to build a better, safer world for him to live in, no matter what the objections from the adults.
    In other words, the risk in manipulating things to create child-soldiers is that they will decide that you, too, are also something to protect themselves against.
